On Monday, the Waukegan City Council voted 8-1 to approve a new conditional use permit to Planet 13 for opening a marijuana dispensary. The council also voted to extend to current cannabis business, Goddess Growers, the right to cultivate marijuana indoors. 5th Ward Alderwoman Edith Newsome was the sole no vote.
These businesses are estimated to generate $1.2 million in revenue to the city when in full operation.
Planet 13 intends to open its dispensary at 4000 Northpoint Blvd which is the site of a former bank building adjacent to Fountain Square.
Already approved is the conditional use permit approved for Ivy Hall which intends to open at 900 block of South Waukegan Road.
These two businesses are within a half mile of each other. Planet 13 hopes to open in the second half of 2023. Ivy Hall is in the process of working on its 4,600 square-foot retail space.
