According to reports, Darissa A. Chavarria has been charged with multiple felonies in connection with alleged theft from residences throughout Lake County.
Chavarria is a baby sitter and has been charged regarding stealing items for the purpose of selling them on Facebook Marketplace. Those items include high end jewelry, handbags and clothing.
She is alleged to have stolen items from two homes in Lake Forest. The moms of the children who Chavarria baby sat, later realized there were items missing.
“The family they had noticed some things had gone missing, but never suspected the babysitter, until another family saw the items on marketplace, so it’s something you might not see everyday and realize it’s a slow crime,” Gehrke said.
Her actions are described as brazen considering the stolen items are reported to have been displayed openly on her Facebook profile.
Chavarria is a Lake Bluff resident and police are trying to identify other victims.
“Some of the moms believe there are other victims, so that’s why we’re reaching out, and if anybody has used her, please check your stuff or give us a call,” Gehrke said.
