As the April 1st municipal election comes closer, voters in Grayslake will elect a new mayor as long time outgoing Rhett Taylor is not seeking another term.
Two candidates are in the race. Grayslake Trustee Elizabeth Davies and Avon Township Board Trustee Jeff Loffredo are vying for the seat which hasn’t been open since 2009.
Jeff Loffredo is a union pipe fitter who has served as Avon Township Trustee since 2021. He is running on a platform of infrastructure improvement, particularly storm water management. Loffredo does have 15 years of construction industry experience which is useful. He also advocates for a marijuana dispensary in Grayslake saying that it will help alleviate the tax burden.
Elizabeth Davies is a mathematics teacher who has served as Grayslake Trustee for 10 years. On her role, Davies has been working on the drainage issue and more. She has been part of the work involving financing and upgrading Grayslake’s infrastructer. Davies is also committed to fiscal responsibility. She helped pass 10 balanced budgets and maintain Grayslake’s debt-free status.
Davies has a proven track record of thinking ahead. In an interview she said, “With the world changing rapidly, good leadership isn’t just about strategic planning, it’s about strategic preparedness. Grayslake has spent years analyzing potential challenges and proactively addressing them.”
Davies also has quite a commitment, passion and enthusiasm for community, which shows. She is highly visible and present throughout Grayslake. Davies is also endorsed by outgoing Mayor Rhett Taylor and every member of the Grayslake Village Board.
While we respect Loffredo’s work and service as a township trustee and as a union member, Davies is far more prepared. Davies has been an instrumental part of the progress Grayslake has made over the past ten years. She brings strong ability and a forward looking vision to the table. We see her as an unusually solid choice.
