The 116 year old historic Long Grove covered bridge is something certain motorists just can’t seem to avoid.
It was hit on Friday evening by a 66 year old man driving a a 2007 Mitsubishi Fuso. The facade was punctured by the collision. Village Manager Greg Jackson said the vehicle was owned by by Brothers Gutters and Supplies and the driver was ticketed.
Monday morning, the bridge was then struck again. This time, by a 24 year old man driving 2015 Mercedes 3500 owned by Fox Valley Fire and Safety according to reports.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the bridge has been hit 48 times. It is difficult to conceive why this bridge is repeatedly struck. There are clear markings warning motorists of its height.
The bridge was heavily reinforced with steel in 2020. Now the bridge typically does more damage to the vehicle than is done to it.
