On May 6, Waukegan police received a call of shots fired in the vicinity of Lewis and 10th Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found 23-year-old Niolis Collazo unresponsive in her vehicle. She was transported to the hospital and pronounced deceased.
According to prosecutors, surveillance videos where recovered which led to identifying a vehicle that was owned by a relative of David Dejesus, 16.
On May 11th, Dejesus was pullled over driving the identified vehicle. According to prosecutors, an investigation determined that Dejesus and Yahir A. Torrecilla, 17, where occupants of the vehicle at the time of the shooting.
Both Dejesus and Torrecilla have been charged as adults with first-degree murder. A judge issued a $5 million bond for each of the teens.
According to prosecutors, given that both are juveniles, they are being held in the Hulse Detention Center in Vernon Hills.
