On Sunday, a women’s march took place in Buffalo Grove. The group swelled to over 100 people who banded together to stand up for women’s rights. Their stated misison was to rally the community to vote with choice being affected by the outcome of this year’s presidential election. According to organizers Alicia Timm and Carolyn Pinta, the event was an overwhelming success.

The group gathered adjacent to the intersection of Lake Cook and Arlington Heights Road. By 3pm, the group swelled to over 100 marchers carrying signs supporting choice and campaign signs of local candidates who support women’s rights. Streams of motorists traveling on Lake Cook waved and honked their horns in solidarity and support.

“We had quite an outpouring of support,” said Timm. “Beyond those who were able to attend, messages of support from people who pledged to vote poured in.”

Once formed, the group peacefully marched east along Lake Cook with a constant parade of vehicles honking, flashing their headlights and waving in agreement.

“Donald J Trump is proud of having “killed” Roe V Wade. Now he is trying to distance himself from the religious right and Project 2025, both of which call for a national ban,” said Pinta “We know that Trump will sign a ban to placate the right. When his mouth moves and words are coming out, that is how you know he is lying.”

Representative Alexander X. Mooney a republican from West Virginia filed House Bill 431, colloquially known as “The Life at Conception Act.” The measure would effectively comprise a federal ban on abortion, among other changes which negatively affect access to health care for women. The bill has 131 cosponsors, all of whom are members of the republican party. HB431 currently is in the House Judiciary Committee. Congress is covered by the Supremacy Clause in Article V1 which allows such measures to supersede those passed by state assemblies.

Timm, Pinta and the marchers urge all to exercise their right to vote. Early voting locations in Lake County open on Monday October 21st.
